URBAN YOGA IN VIENNA – 11 BEAUTIFUL YOGA STUDIOS IN THE AUSTRIAN CAPITAL

Yoga in Vienna! Are you visiting the Austrian capital and looking for an extraordinary yoga course or a beautiful yoga studio in Vienna? I'll show you where to find them!

Whether a portion of traditional “Kaiserschmarrn” or a yummy piece of “Sachertorte” is top of your list to do in Austria, or you are looking for a pleasant stroll around the Danube Island, a walk across the Naschmarkt or you wish to visit Josefstadt – Vienna is always worth a visit in my opinion. As a keen walker I prefer to explore a city by foot and drift along as I let myself just meander through the streets. To me, there is almost nowhere more beautiful and inspiring than the Austrian capital.

The picturesque city centre, the modern cultural district and the many beautiful green parks and distinctive areas make my heart grow fonder every time I visit Vienna – this is mainly because it is unlike many other large cities in that it is incredibly relaxed. With a melange in one hand and a bread roll in the other, the world-famous coffee culture and Austrian serenity can be enjoyed in an utterly carefree way and the quiet hustle and bustle can be observed particularly well.

Speaking of relaxation – what has Vienna to offer for all us yogis and yoginis? Quite a lot, as I was pleased to find out during my last visit! In fact, due to the diverse range of yoga courses you can find here at a mixture of both the pompous and the magically small yoga studios, Vienna has now become the new absolute yoga hotspot for me.

Und natürlich gilt auch für Wien in der aktuellen Coronazeit: Viele der Yogastudios in Wien bieten momentan viele Onlinekurse an – also einfach mal vorbeischauen und mityogen!

YOGA IN VIENNA: Die 11 Besten Yogastudios in Wien – ONLINE AND OFFLINE!

1. Yogawerkstatt

The Yogawerkstatt is centrally located in the middle of Josefstadt and just around the corner from the Danube. The two owners Romana and Sascha founded the studio almost 13 years ago and have mainly offered Ashtanga and Vinyasa ever since. However, courses in Yin Yoga and classic Hatha Yoga can also be found on the schedule. Here, every yogi is welcome, whatever their individual status and knowledge, you are welcome to join as an absolute beginner because special emphasis is put on the practice of like-minded yoga enthusiasts all together – so don't be shy! For those with a little more experience, the classical MySore-lessons are particularly recommended, as each participant can practice here individually at their own pace and level.

Yoga styles Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga

What else? Om-Babies, Zazen, Reading Circles, Workshops (e. g. Pranayama for beginners), meditation

Workshops & Specials? Yes – here!

Teacher Training: 200- or 300-Hour-Training available

For more information on classes, both online and offline, please visit: https://www.yogawerkstatt.at/

2. Feelgood

The Feelgood is located close to the Karlskirche and welcomes yoga beginners and experienced practitioners as well as (expectant) mothers, children and families. Here you will find that children are included well in certain classes. The numerous workshops also deal primarily with being a parent. But don't worry – there are plenty of classes for all other yogis, both in German and in English. And for those particularly suffering from stress, in “Mindful Strength” or “Relax and Restore” everything revolves around the moment, coming down and switching off – wonderfully relaxing after a day of exploring Vienna!

Yoga styles Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga, Acro Yoga, Kalari Yoga, Nidra Yoga

What else? Lots of classes and workshops for (becoming) parents, different Flow- und relaxation-classes (e.g. Inside Flow, Shanti Flow, Lunch Flow, Easy Flow, …)

Workshops & Specials? Yes, these are available here!

3. Doktor Yoga

I stumbled upon this wonderful studio in the Bermuda Triangle (by the way, the second „Doktor“ can be found in the 7th District) mainly because of the somewhat amusing name – after all, Doctor Yoga sounds like the perfect studio for people with back problems and herniated discs like me! The course emphasis of this venue is definitely on Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga, while it offers relaxed yoga pretty much completely detached from Asian culture and without any esotericism. There are classic asanas, using modern music with lots of humor and above all there is zero pressure to perform – great for beginners and experienced yogis and yoginis alike! In this way, the “patients” can practice yoga and do something for their overall health, in a multicultural/multi- spiritual studio. Here you will find on offer a large variety of different workshops – from Chaturanga or forearm workshop to the Halloween Flow or the 108 sun salutations.

Yoga styles Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga

What else? Lots of workshops (Jazz-Chaturanga, forearm workshops, inversions, …)

Workshops & Specials? Yes, these are available here!

4. Coming HoooMM

Whether in the pretty Augarten or the Prater, with the Coming Hooomm you also have the opportunity to practice yoga at two different locations during your trip to Vienna – and since both yoga studios are wonderfully light-flooded and offer a relaxing retreat from the stressful day, it actually does not really matter in which studio you end up. The many different courses cover the basics for beginners on the mat as well as for more experienced yogis, and for those looking for relaxation in Yin or with postural problems in the healthy back courses there are a good variety of classes for you to choose from too. Are you looking for more balance in everyday life? Then take part in a Pilates class, which takes place several times a week and helps you ground yourself properly, before you continue exploring the city.

Yoga styles Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga

What else? Massages, Nuad (Thai Yoga Message)

5. One Yoga

One Yoga Studio Vienna is located very close to the Museum Quarter and is definitely (at least in my opinion) one of the most beautiful yoga studios in the city. The huge yoga room has stunning stucco ceilings which enable the light to flood the area with sun light that almost always shines pleasantly and warmly on your face during the practice – if you’re lucky enough with the weather during your stay, that is! With a lot of space around you, it is especially comfortable to practice and try out different styles of yoga, from Vinyasa Flow to Ashtanga and Yin. For everyone who wants to delve deeper, try the workshops: These range from theoretical information classes (e.g. introduction to chakras) to trial courses, arm balance classes or back training.

Yoga styles Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga

What else? Lots of practical and theoretical Workshops

Workshops & Specials? Yes, these are available here!

7. BYoga

A forest yoga studio in the middle of Vienna? Admittedly, the name initially surprised me a little, because I have already seen myself practicing yoga under trees … however, forrest yoga is actually a very special contemporary yoga style, which was named after its inventor. It is characterised by long asanas and special exercise sequences and with concrete help from the yoga teacher through words and touches, and all together this make it easier for the yogi to dive deeper (in other words lose yourself) in the practice session. Forrest Yoga offers you a powerful, intensive yoga class that makes you sweat, strengthens your body, gives you energy and also calms your nervous system – a wonderful yoga style especially for highly sensitive people. bYoga, located right next to Vienna's Stadtpark, specializes in this style of yoga and offers courses for both beginners and experienced people. The cozy yoga room is heated to a pleasant 26 degrees, so your sore muscles will feel particularly good after a long walk through the city.

What else? Retreats and Community Events

Teacher Training: 200-Hour-Teacher Training

8. Bikram Yoga Wien Süd

It is getting hot in here – not least, because the exercise room is heated to a full 40 degrees to make all muscles, ligaments and tendons supple and to really boost your metabolism. Have you never practiced hot yoga? It doesn't matter – beginners are just as welcome as experienced hot yogis to try out the Bikram Yoga style. You can choose between 60- and 90-minute classes or, if you prefer to play it safe and just want to relax, attend one of the Yin classes. Do you love Pilates and are still curious about Bikram? No problem - let's go to the Hot Inferno Pilates course! Phew ...

9. Yogaria

Right in the 8th district, a little hidden from the bustling main streets, is one of the most magical yoga studios in Vienna – called the Yogaria. This studio is very relaxed and wonderfully familiar, but despite the relatively small space (in addition to the cozy entrance area there is only one course room), the studio offers a number of different styles and classes at different times of the day, although most courses take place in the morning or in the evening. From gentle yin yoga and nidra yoga to balancing hatha yoga or dynamic vinyasa flow, experienced and beginners will feel equally at home in Yogaria. What I especially like is in spring and summer some of the classes take place on the yoga deck outside.

Yoga styles Vinyasa Flow, Yin, Yoga Nidra

What else? Yoga für seniors, meditation, Yoga therapy

For more information on classes, both online and offline, please visit: www.yogaria.at

10. Bali Yoga Wien

Yogastudios in Wien_Bali Yoga Wien

No trip to Bali this year? Never mind – owner Beate lived in Bali for 22 years and finally brought the paradise back to Vienna with her studio close to the city centre. Therefore, the studio itself is worth a stroll to as there are so many interesting books, oriental jewelry and handcrafts made from a selection of woods and materials that can be looked at and enjoyed. As for yoga, yogis can practice very different styles in two course rooms, from hatha to vinyasa flow to yin yoga and back yoga. Many courses are held in English as the teachers come from all over the world – perfect for holidays “around the corner” and a large portion of international yoga flair.

Yoga styles Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga

What else? Forrest Yoga, Yoga Bootcamp (Yoga meets Fitness – highly recommended!), workshops

Teacher Training: Dual-Teacher Training in Vienna and Bali

11. All Good Yoga

All good Yoga is located in the middle of Vienna's 2nd district on Hollandstrasse and thus right next to the Karmelitermarkt – a district particularly popular for art, culture and the numerous gastronomic highlights and is certainly worth a relaxing walk. Studio owner Anna has settled here as part of a concept store and mainly offers Vinyasa classes in her cozy studio. Despite the sweaty flows, one thing is very important to her and for her yogis: to go through the class relaxed, easy and with lots of fun, without strict rules and without striving for the greatest possible perfection. Yoga for everyone – wonderful.

Yoga style Vinyasa Flow

What else? Yoga for pregnant women, Business Yoga
